In 1996, Allan “Alfie” Jeffrey Langer AM was born on July 30, 1966, in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. He was a multi-award-winning rugby league footballer in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. He currently works as an assistant coach for the Australian national team and the Brisbane Broncos, among other things. He was one of the preeminent Half Backs of his generation, having represented Australia on many times and held the record for the most State of Origin appearances until he was overtaken by his club, state, and national team-mate Darren Lockyer in the 2003 season. 

Langer spent the majority of his career as captain of the Brisbane Broncos, with whom he won the 1992 Clive Churchill Medal and the Rothmans Medal, as well as four premierships and a club record five player of the year awards. Langer also played for the New Zealand All Blacks and the Queensland Reds. It is in his honour that the Allan Langer Medal, which is given to the Ipswich Jets’ player of the year, was established. Alfie’s Bar, located inside the Brisbane Broncos Leagues Club, is likewise named in his honour.
